Stitch Guide
|
- Needle Lock —To keep ribbon from slipping out of needle, begin with a Needle Lock
Stitch. Thread 14"e; of ribbon through needle eye. Pierce short end of ribbon
about 1/4"e; from end. Pull long end until ribbon is firmly locked on needle.
When finished stitching, leave approximately 3"e; of ribbon, take needle
to back of fabric and tie a knot. Clip below knot.

- Knotting the End of the Silk
Ribbon
— To create a Soft Knot prior to stitching, drape the silk ribbon in a circular manner
to position the end of the silk ribbon perpendicular to the tip of the needle. Pierce the end of the silk ribbon with the needle, sliding the needle through the silk ribbon as if to make a short basting stitch.Pull the needle and silk ribbon through the stitched portion to form a knot at the ribbon end.
- To End Stitching
— Secure your stitches in place for each flower or small area before beginning a new area. Do not drag
the ribbon from one area to another. Tie a slip knot on the wrong side
of your needlework to secure the stitch in place
and cut end of ribbon.
Straight Stitch
— The stitch may be loose or taut depending on the desired effect. (1) Come up at A. Go down at B, keeping
the ribbon flat. (2) Completed straight stitch.
-
Spider Web Rose
— (1) Using two strands of floss, securely work straight stitches to form five spokes. These are your
anchor stitches to create the rose. 2) Bring the piece of ribbon up
through the center of the spokes. (3 & 4 )Weave the ribbon over one
spoke and under the next spoke continuing around in one direction (
clockwise or counter clockwise ) until the spokes are covered. When
weaving, keep the ribbon loose and allow it to twist. To end, stitch down
through the fabric along the last row of petals
-
French Knot —
Bring needle and ribbon up through fabric and wrap ribbon around needle . Insert needle close to starting
point, then pull down. Work with loose tension to create a full knot.
Use one wrap French Knot when working with ribbon, or twice when
stitching with floss.
-
Ribbon Stitch —
Bring needle and ribbon through fabric. Lay
ribbon flat on the fabric. At end of stitch (approx. 1/4"e;) pierce ribbon
with needle. Gently pull ribbon through, allowing ribbon to curl at the
tip. Pull ribbon through slowly to avoid making a straight stitch.
-
Stem Stitch
—- Bring the needle and ribbon up through the fabric. Make one slightly slanted stitch. For the next
stitch, bring the needle up at the center of the previous stitch and to
the side, and make another stitch. Continue in this manner, bringing the
needle up on the same side.
